The best way to have a good idea is to have lots of ideas.

They don’t have to do it

Sometimes creativity is as simple as making connections where others don’t. Seeing problems and opportunities that only become obvious when you point them out.

When I think of  a construction crew working in a building pit, words like emotional design and creativity are not the first things that spring to mind. That’s exactly why I am so in love with this video right now:

The idea is so brilliant not because of its execution but because the problem and opportunity are so hard to spot.

The construction of their new home could have just been any other project to the crew or the contractors. The well being of the cancer patients was not their problem, they are there to build.

Instead they turned it into a memorable event that is already binding and exciting the child-patients to their home-to-come. I bet they hear the drills a lot less in the morning, and when they get to move in, it’ll be a change they eagerly anticipated instead of feared.

  1. Great example! I love the emotional statement of having children fighting for their lives be immortalized into the building.
